History

"They embody everything about that classic sound that I've come to love; a perfect balance of snotty punk and charming indiepop with an energy level that puts them on the edge of disaster" - It's A Trap

During the autumn 2007 The High Hats members Mange, Tobbe, Tenbrink and Lehto released their first album 'Too Much Is Never Enough' on Alleycat Records. The fourteen punk tasting pop songs were received in opened arms by united criticists, the record was described as the perfect breed of Ramones and Beach Boys and was rewarded best pop/rock at the Manifest Awards in Stockholm the year after. The release was followed by a month long tour through Europe and the band was also hand picked to join Swedish festivals as Way Out West and West Coast Riot. During this time second guitar player Jacob joined the band.

In the winter of 2008 The High Hats released another very well received record - the free-for-download 'The Montpellier Sessions' - which got well played on both national radio and student stations in Sweden. By this time the band needed a break to be able to concentrate on the next album which was going to be recorded during 2009. The work was as far from easy as possible - sickness, members dropped out and other disasters hit the band. These facts came to color the recording with a darker sound and greater depth than the debut. Still the band managed to finish a tour through Germany and Belgium as well as a tour through Spain the year after with their new drummer Niclas. An inspiration during the production was also the Beach Boys' pop classic 'Pet Sounds' from 1966, both to the songs arrangement and the sound. The material, which included about twenty songs, were stripped to 12 and the new record 'And Then Came Cancer' were set to be released by Alleycat Records. This Gothenburg based record label which the band have worked close with since the beginning has also well rewarded bands like HFOS and Snuffed by the Yakuza in their rooster.

With much appreciated live shows around Sweden and Europe and considerable hours of air time in Swedish and foreign radio (in the end of 2008 was the band one of the 20 most played artists in Swedish student radio) the following audience have grown by each year. In 2012 The High Hats headlined a festival in Belgium before The Kids (!) and their reputation as a wild live act is spreading around Europe as we speak.

'And Then Came Cancer' was released on both LP and CD on November 14th 2012, a date that marked the re-birth of The High Hats. This time with a new drummer, new found energy, a new commitment and with a remarkable record the band is now ready to break on through the modern music climate. This marks the end of dull music. In the spring of 2013 The High Hats aim to play everywhere, all the time, just for your pleasure - we'll give you danger...
